Dr William Gosling
Representative of Viking Directors Ltd
Bill Gosling has represented Viking Directors LTD on the board of Paraytec since early in 2007. Bill has dedicated his career to business development for technology based enterprises. After initial training with the MoD, he gained a BSc (Hons 1st Class) in engineering following which he was awarded a PhD by Imperial College for work on electro-optics. He worked in R&D with Rank Taylor Hobson and BAE until the early 1970s when he moved to Yorkshire to take up a technical management role (R&D, production, service support) with a 3i company based in Leeds. This evolved into general management and in the late 1970s he played a leading part in a partial Management Buy Out (MBO) of the company to concentrate on the marketing and distribution of high-tech products internationally. Shortly the MBO was acquired by the USA company Spectra Physics for which he worked, initially in a market development capacity and then as a consultant. Bill formed his own business development consultancy in the early 1980s serving large corporations (eg BT, Ford, Corning), SMEs, the EU, UK Government (eg DTI, Mergers & Monopolies Commission) as well as technology based start-ups and SMEs. The consultancy was acquired by PE International in 1990 and after a period with them Bill left to take up a business development management position with the MoD (DSTL) with responsibility for commercialising defence technology. Having retired from the MoD Bill moved back to Yorkshire with his family in 2001 where he was invited to chair the newly formed Inkopo/Viking, the lead investor in Paraytec. Dr Gosling is also on the board of a regeneration social enterprise organisation in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire.
